A POEM FOR MY GROWING UP NIECE, DELA

Just yesterday people call you sweetie
It is still loud enough in my ears everyone’s appraisal
Now you are alone
People ignore the fact that you are loveable
They have a pity on you
A blind pity
They don’t see how you try to shed your tears
You bear those pains even in your early age
When kids are supposed to enjoy their days with present and showered with attention and love of parents
Now you are alone
Your mom who loves you much chose to go
Cry, sweetie!
Cry for mistake she did
Your dad now is the only one left to love
I don’t call you sweetie
I don’t consider you really cute
I’m not obsessed to be someone special for you
But I’m finding a way to shed your tears and help you recover
